The Butterfly

The Butterfly’s only influences are; Volcanoes, ABBA, Joy Division, the stock-market, Hits from the 60s and 70s, Mr Leo Tolstoy, Carravaggio, Tool, Prince, Mr Oscar Wilde, Michael Jackson, Michael Patton, and the Beano 1989-1994. Having foraged in this fertile cultural undergrowth, the Butterfly pick the juiciest morsels and produce exciting, accessible mini rock-operas.

At a performance of the Butterfly, the listener will be thrilled, serenaded and terrified in equal measures before they have to drag themselves back into reality. Rather than a gig, their shows often seem more like breakneck performances of a tragi-comedy, replete with heroes, villains, heartbreak and punchlines.

“Captivating, enigmatic, enthralling and with an unexpected twist or seven punctuating every song, The Butterfly really are one band you can't afford to miss.” Drowned In Sound

“the majority of the twenty tracks on this record are top notch, but special mentions must go to… The Butterfly’s dramatic goth/cajun/metal/theatrical mash-up ‘The Duke’.” Drowned in Sound

“A Band that truly understands the word composition” Glasswerk

“There is enough urgency, passion and dynamic range to power a small town in America…. The postmodern collage is breathtaking. And, damn it, its FUN without, for a moment, being a piss take”Whisperin and Hollerin

“A musical craft and a lyrical deftness most bands would give up backstage blowjobs for” Vibrations Magazine

“when it hits (or that should probably be smashes) into the spot music simply doesn’t get much more rewarding” Vibrations Magazine

“A truly dark carnival” The Music Guru

“The Butterfly are inventive, mould breaking and fierce…”The Plastic Ashtray

“Like an aural Jackson Pollock… proof that it is still possible to do something genuinely interesting with the rock genre and still make an accessible record” Leedsmusicscene.net
